This is what the Troy Architectural Project (TAP) had in mind when they developed an old school building in South Troy into affordable housing units. However as with many old building in the northeast there was significant lead present in the existing coating on the buildings.

When designing the new Gymnasium addition at Cohoes High School, the Architect wanted to leave the steel exposed but needed to meet the fire codes so they specified an intumescent fireproofing for coating the exposed steel.
